Dr. Catharina Linde Forsberg updates us on the Canine Herpes Virus, a virus that all breeders
should understand since no truly effective vaccine exists; however, management can protect
your litters if you know the danger periods.

“What’s New in Science” is a new feature that we hope to continue. It consists of short summaries
of scientific topics that may be of interest to dog lovers.

We end the issue with Judging. Mr. Andrew Brace, well known among the dog fancy, writes about
“Judging Puppies”. It is not specifically about Russells but his perspective is much appreciated
and applies to all breeds. The last article allows the reader to apply their own knowledge of
judging to a virtual class of Russell puppies and compare the evaluations with those of others. It
is hoped that future issues will include participation by licensed judges as well.

I must admit that this issue was a struggle. I hope that you, the reader, will find that it was worth
it. We apologize to those who booked advertisements early expecting us to publish at the end
of 2022. Unfortunately, we did not have enough support by way of bookings to proceed at that
time. Publication had to be delayed; we were just not sure how long and we kept hoping not to
have to cancel it completely. Thank you to those who stuck with us.

We really believe that this type of magazine can be useful to breeders and JRT exhibitors. It is
not geared toward influencing judges, which may be why it is difficult to get advertising support.
But if you find anything in this issue useful and worthwhile, please consider supporting this
educational magazine in the future.

We have changed it to an ANNUAL issue to give you plenty of time to work out how to support
this endeavor.
