Personal Experiences - Breeding With A Handicap
My name is Zdenka Koldova, and I live in the Czech Republic. As one of the few breeders I
know, I have a visual handicap, but breeding is a great challenge and also a “driving force”
for me.
I have met Aussies more than 10 ys ago. I´m training dogs for different institutions. In my
life, I have done several different breeds, but Aussies are the best in any way. Finally, in
2017, I bought my first own female Multi.Grand.Ch. Multi.Ch. Instant Pleasure od Halířů.
I bought this female primarily as my canine assistant, who helps me replace my eyesight
and predicts attacks of diabetes. She guides me, predicts seizures in diabetes, warns me
of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, and assists - hands me things, undresses me, opens
doors, etc. She knows how to put me in a stable position when I'm unconscious and calls for
help when needed. Her character captivated me so much, and thanks to her "will to please",
I finally decided to use her in breeding. She has great health results as well, so she became
also the founder of my kennel.
The first litter I did in 2020 was an external.
It was in „od Halířů“ kennel - thank you very
much Michaela & Vaclav for this opportunity
that you offered to me. As a stud dog. I chose
a beautiful bluemerle male from the USA,
named After All Strait From Texas, who was
in Europe for a while. I bred 7 wonderful
puppies; this was an absolutely new
experience for me. It was not easy at all –
imagine seven little fureballs in an apartment
with me, blind breeder. But great people
around me helped me a lot (and true friends
are helping me all the time), and all the
puppies did great, so I decided to keep two
females under my wing. Now I can say that
all of them grew into wonderful individuals,
in character and exterior as well. In the
meantime, my kennel Life Bond was established in 2021. So the first litter under my own
kennel was born in 2022, and again, I used a male from the country of origin, from the USA,
from the famous kennel CopperRidge´s. I have got 9 puppies, and now they are successful
at shows and in herding. We are now preparing some of them for breeding. In my breeding,
I try to have a balanced character and breed nice, healthy Aussies and at the same time, I
want to preserve the aptitude for canistherapy, assistance dogs, and herding, with the desire
to work for people.
Instant had just two amazing litters and gave to her offspring only the best of her. She is a
really versatile dog, once in a lifetime! In addition to many titles from shows, she is engaged
in herding, rescue work, and canistherapy dog, and, of course, she is an active assistance
dog. Now we have second-generation Aussies born into my hands. Instant daughter Lucky is
the same as her mother, so new adventure let’s begin…
