Smooth Coat is a Curly Mini that did
not inherit the curly coat gene, so is
without the Curled Coat. Many of
these Smooth Coats have what
we call a “bunny fur coat”, with

a few swirls and fluffy hair.

The History of the North American
Curly

There are three distinct lines of Curly
Miniatures - Damele, Canadian and Curly Jim.
These lines all trace back to their own Curly
coated foundation sire.

Miniature Horses DAMELE MINIATURE

The Damele Miniature’s were sired by Ebony
Twist, a Curly stallion that traces back to the
Nevada Curly Mustangs bred by the Damele
Family and their founding sire Copper D. The
founding miniature breeder of this line was
Ellen Bancroft, Washington, USA. She bred
Ebony Twist to a Miniature mare and had a pony
sized foal. She continued to breed the resulting
offspring back to Miniature horse’s until she
